CAPE TOWN WELCOMES HOME SA’S GOT TALENT TOP THREE

TOP THREE TO PERFORM AT CAVENDISH SQUARE – SATURDAY 13 NOVEMBER AT 13H00

Cape Town really proved that they have talent at the finals of SA’S GOT TALENT last week with the top three and winner all hailing from the Mother City.

Cavendish Square has organised a heroes welcome for Cape Town’s top talent, and ALL of the top three will perform at the Centre Court next Saturday 13 November from 13h00.

Performing will be winner, James Bhemgee – a former street sweeper and unemployed tenor, runner-up, Constable Madalene Abrahams – a local policewoman and third placed group, Limited Drum Corps, who also come from very humble backgrounds and had to borrow drums for their show stopping performance.

Facebook fans have dubbed Bhemjee as “South Africa’s own Susan Boyle – only better” and South Africa was reduced to tears when the 45 year old former street sweeper and unemployed tenor James Bhemgee won SA’s Got Talent on SABC 2. Bhemjee won R250 000.

Bhemjee beat fellow Capetonian vocalist and policewoman, Madalene Abrahams (32) who came second, with The Limited Drum Corps coming third making it a 1,2,3 for Cape Town.

Bhemjee was first “discovered” on the streets of Cape Town by a woman who overheard him singing whilst he was working as a street sweeper. She was so impressed that she paid for Bhemgee to have vocal lessons and today he performs with the group, the Cape Flats Tenors, but until now, was waiting for his big break.

Runner up, Constable Madalene Abrahams, sang her way into second place with a near perfect performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” By day a policewoman, the transformation tonight into glamorous diva left the audience speechless.

The three judges had no say in last week’s grand finale and it was purely based on public votes. But they did have a lot to say about Bhemjee’s win: “You are so humble but blessed with a stunning talent” said Ian von Memerty; “You are natural and proved there is no need to show off” commented Randall Abrahams; with Shado Twala telling him that he could “perform anywhere in the world.”

Shado Twala also added that “Cape Town’s proved that they’ve REALLY got talent!”
Join Cavendish Square in welcoming the top three home next Saturday 13 November at 13h00 at Cavendish Square Centre Court. The event is FREE of CHARGE.

An ideal position to watch the proceeding is at Col’Cacchio’s pizzeria in Cavendish Square. Call them on 021-674 6387 to reserve a table.

For further information go to Cavendish Square’s Facebook fan page where you’ll also find details of exciting competitions and retailer specials, or call Cavendish Square on 021 657 5600.

Win two sets of double tickets to see Tom Jones live in Concert

Cavendish Square has a special Valentine’s Day gift for their loyal facebook fans… a chance to win two sets of double tickets to see the sensational Tom Jones live in concert at the Grand Arena on Wednesday 7th April 2010. To stand a chance to win, go to the Cavendish Square fan page and click on the Tom Jones status update - mark that you like the post or tell us why you think you should get the tickets.

The legendary Welsh showman brings his dynamic show of both greatest hits and unexpected treats to the Grand Arena, Grand West Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town on Wednesday 7th April 2010 and at the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday 10th April 2010.

Tom is a living legend who has befriended, collaborated and hung out with practically every key character in the music and showbiz worlds; he has the rare ability to cut across generations and genres, appealing to young and old, mainstream and cutting edge alike. One of the great performers of both the 20th and 21st centuries, he’s widely recognized as one of the godfathers of modern soul, a man without whom the likes of Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson, Joss Stone and Duffy would never have existed.

Incredibly, after making music for 45 years, it has been suggested by critics on both sides of the Atlantic that his latest album 24 Hours might just be his best yet. Recently certified Gold, it is a collection of largely original songs that Tom has co-written, containing some of the most personal and revealing work in his 5 decade long career.

Tom is thoroughly enjoying bringing a show that presents repertoire from the 60’s to the present to audiences in a variety of venues across the world which include classic hits Its Not Unusual, What’s New Pussycat, She’s A Lady, Sex Bomb, Burning Down The House and more.

Sir Tom is coming back into the nation's arenas and hearts with a repertoire that spans decades and generations; or in the more humble words of a true music fan, "I'm just opening up shop again. Let's see who comes in through the door."

Recent reviews of Tom Jones’ US Tour have been abundant with praise:

“Tom Jones’ hugely entertaining set…found the Welsh singer having more fun than would appear healthy for a man his age….he performed his songs with an energy, flair and wit that should put performers half his age to shame” Variety

“He…served notice that [he] still has it going on, and it was no idle boast” Boston Globe

“This performer’s true calling card has always been the pipes. Tom Jones [performed with] the iron will of a true entertainer who proved he still has what it takes….and you had to love him” Vanity Fair

Mugg & Bean Cavendish continues to impress!

Review by Bianca Coleman

In the beginning there was coffee, and it was good.

Mugg & Bean was founded in 1996 on a philosophy of generosity, with large portions and bottomless coffee. Two years later, the brand was franchised and Mugg & Beans popped up everywhere, and luckily in Cavendish Square as well.

Open from 8am (9am on weekends) till 10pm, Mugg & Bean’s menu is divided into breakfast time, lunch time, dinner time and any time. While these categories refer to the types of dishes, all of them can be enjoyed any time, including breakfast which is served all day. This brilliant for people who firmly believe breakfast is the most important meal but don’t necessarily wish to rise from their beds before noon. Or before 5pm, for that matter.

The All American Breakfast - two fried eggs, back bacon, beef sausage, Boston beans, grilled tomato, M&B wedges with a slice of M&B toast – is the most popular but there are a few new things on the menu worth checking out too. Like the Delite Breakfast, which is poached egg and gypsy ham on health toast with cream cheese and cherry tomatoes with a side of fresh apple. Yum.

Also new is the Cuban steak sandwich, served on Italian flatbread with jalapeños and
sautéed onions topped with a fried egg, which is absolutely delicious, and by the way, those wedges….OMG…so light and fluffy and irresistible.

Mugg & Bean is a wi-fi hotspot, which, along with the food and the famous bottomless coffee (still only R12,90), makes it a great place for your unofficial branch office. The boss need never know.
