Mugg & Bean Cavendish continues to impress!

Review by Bianca Coleman

In the beginning there was coffee, and it was good.

Mugg & Bean was founded in 1996 on a philosophy of generosity, with large portions and bottomless coffee. Two years later, the brand was franchised and Mugg & Beans popped up everywhere, and luckily in Cavendish Square as well.

Open from 8am (9am on weekends) till 10pm, Mugg & Bean’s menu is divided into breakfast time, lunch time, dinner time and any time. While these categories refer to the types of dishes, all of them can be enjoyed any time, including breakfast which is served all day. This brilliant for people who firmly believe breakfast is the most important meal but don’t necessarily wish to rise from their beds before noon. Or before 5pm, for that matter.

The All American Breakfast - two fried eggs, back bacon, beef sausage, Boston beans, grilled tomato, M&B wedges with a slice of M&B toast – is the most popular but there are a few new things on the menu worth checking out too. Like the Delite Breakfast, which is poached egg and gypsy ham on health toast with cream cheese and cherry tomatoes with a side of fresh apple. Yum.

Also new is the Cuban steak sandwich, served on Italian flatbread with jalapeños and
sautéed onions topped with a fried egg, which is absolutely delicious, and by the way, those wedges….OMG…so light and fluffy and irresistible.

Mugg & Bean is a wi-fi hotspot, which, along with the food and the famous bottomless coffee (still only R12,90), makes it a great place for your unofficial branch office. The boss need never know.
